One of the easiest things about Cannabis Cowboy is that you don't need a car to reach it. The store sits on Jamaica Avenue in Richmond Hill, which happens to be one of the better-connected stretches in this part of Queens: the J/Z subway runs on the elevated tracks directly above the avenue, and the Q24 and Q56 buses run along it at street level. Whichever you take, you end up within a short walk of the door. This guide puts every route in one place — the exact stop, which way to walk, and what to have ready when you arrive.

Where exactly is the store?

Cannabis Cowboy is a New York State licensed adult-use dispensary at 110-04 Jamaica Avenue, in Richmond Hill, Queens. The street address tells you most of what you need: it's on Jamaica Avenue, between roughly 110th and 111th Streets, right under the elevated train. The J/Z tracks run overhead and the Q24/Q56 buses run below, so the building is about as transit-accessible as a Queens storefront gets.

"Closest stop" here means the nearest stop on a licensed dispensary — not the nearest storefront advertising cannabis. Several unlicensed shops sit along the same avenue; only licensed dispensaries sell lab-tested, state-tracked product. If you're not sure how to tell them apart, see licensed vs. unlicensed.

How do you get there on the J or Z train?

The J train is the simplest way in. It runs all day and night between Manhattan (Broad St) and Jamaica Center in Queens, on elevated tracks that sit directly above Jamaica Avenue through Richmond Hill. The Z runs the same line during weekday rush hours as a skip-stop express, so depending on the time of day either train may come first — both serve this stretch.

From the 111 St station

111 St is the closest stop. Exit the station and you come down the stairs right onto Jamaica Avenue. From there it's a short, flat walk along the avenue to 110-04 — under a couple of minutes. This is the stop to aim for.

From the 104 St station

104 St is the next stop east and also works fine — it's roughly a five-minute walk west along Jamaica Avenue to the store. If your train arrives at 104 St first, or you're coming from the Jamaica Center side, just walk in the direction of descending street numbers (104 toward 110) and you'll reach it.

  1. Board the J (or the Z during weekday rush) toward Jamaica Center if you're coming from Manhattan or Brooklyn, or toward Broad St if you're coming from Jamaica.
  2. Get off at 111 St (closest) or 104 St (a short walk farther).
  3. Come down to Jamaica Avenue and walk along the avenue to 110-04 — you're walking under the same elevated tracks the whole way.
  4. Have a 21+ photo ID ready at the door.

Coming from JFK or Jamaica Station? The J connects there too — there's a full airport-and-AirTrain route here.

How do you get there on the Q24 or Q56 bus?

If you'd rather stay at street level, two local buses run right along Jamaica Avenue past the store, so you essentially step off at the storefront:

  • Q56 — runs the length of Jamaica Avenue between Jamaica (around 168 St) and East New York, Brooklyn (Broadway Junction). It travels directly down the avenue through Richmond Hill, stopping near 110th–111th Streets.
  • Q24 — runs between Jamaica and Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, sharing the Jamaica Avenue stretch through Richmond Hill before it turns off farther west.

On either bus, watch for the 111 St / 110 St area along Jamaica Avenue and pull the stop request as you approach. Because both routes run along the avenue itself, you're let off within a few steps of the door — no transfer or extra walking needed.

Bus stops are spaced every couple of blocks, so if you're not sure which is closest, tell the driver you're headed to Jamaica Avenue near 111 St — both the Q24 and Q56 stop right in that stretch.

What does the trip cost?

Local transit fare in New York is a flat $2.90, whether you ride the J/Z subway or the Q24/Q56 bus. You pay with OMNY — tapping a contactless card or phone at the turnstile or fare box — or with a MetroCard. One fare also covers a free transfer between subway and local bus (or bus to bus) within two hours, so if you're connecting from another line you generally won't pay twice.

  • Subway (J/Z): $2.90, tapped at the turnstile.
  • Local bus (Q24/Q56): $2.90, tapped at the fare box as you board.
  • Transfer: free between subway and local bus within two hours on the same OMNY card or MetroCard.

Which route should you pick?

It depends on where you're starting:

  • Coming from Manhattan or central Brooklyn? The J/Z is usually fastest — it's a straight elevated ride to 111 St, no transfer.
  • Already on Jamaica Avenue, or coming from Jamaica or East New York? The Q56 (or Q24) drops you right at the storefront without stairs.
  • Arriving at Jamaica Center or Sutphin–Archer? Hop the J toward Broad St and ride the few stops west to 111 St.
  • Coming from JFK or the LIRR? Transfer to the J at Jamaica — the airport route guide walks through it.

What should you have ready when you arrive?

It's a quick, regulated retail stop. Two things to bring:

  • A current, government-issued photo ID showing you're 21+ — a driver's license, state ID, passport, or military ID. An expired ID or a phone photo won't work, and you're carded at the door on every visit.
  • A way to pay. Because cannabis is still federally illegal, many licensed dispensaries are cash-or-debit and keep an ATM on site rather than taking credit cards.

At Cannabis Cowboy, New York's 13% cannabis excise tax (a 9% state plus a 4% local excise) is already built into the menu price, so the number you see on the shelf is the number you pay. If you want to decide before you ride, you can browse the live menu and order ahead for pickup, then just show ID and grab it.

Who does the store serve?

Cannabis Cowboy is on Jamaica Avenue in Richmond Hill, at the 111 St stop on the J/Z line. The team also serves nearby Ozone Park, Jamaica, Woodhaven, Kew Gardens and South Richmond Hill — most of which are a stop or two away on the same train or a short ride on the Q24/Q56. Browse the live menu, or just come by with a 21+ ID.
